The Hostile is a paranormal crime thriller by Joy Mutter
The Hostile is an unusual contemporary paranormal thriller with a sprinkling of horror. In a rundown area of Manchester inside a decrepit bathroom in a small, terraced house overflowing with children and dysfunctional parents, an unfathomable, powerful entity infiltrates loner Serena’s life, with disastrous results. The enigmatic force not only dramatically affects Serena’s life but threatens the wellbeing of everyone she knows, especially those people who earn the strange girl’s displeasure. It soon becomes clear that people should never upset Serena if they know what’s good for them. After reading The Hostile, you’ll never look at D.I.Y. the same way again.
A Word from the Author
In a rundown area of Manchester, inside the bathroom of a terraced house overflowing with children and dysfunctional parents, a powerful entity befriends young Serena with disastrous results. This unlikely enigmatic force not only dramatically affects introverted Serena’s life but also threatens the well-being of everyone she knows, especially those people who’ve earned the strange girl’s displeasure. It soon becomes clear that nobody should ever upset Serena … if they know what’s good for them. After reading The Hostile, you’ll never look at D.I.Y. in the same way again.
It’s hard to believe I’m writing my 11th book, which is also the 4th book in The Hostile series, considering the initial inspiration for writing book 1, The Hostile, came from noticing how weird a domestic item looked in my own bathroom in Oldham. It started me thinking, and The Hostile was born. The Hostile was a delight to write, and readers also seem to be enjoying each of the “refreshingly original” books in the series. I self-published The Hostile on Amazon, just as I’ve done with all my 10 books, putting my skills as a former graphic designer with 20 years experience to good use by designing all my own covers, interiors, and marketing material.
The Hostile is said to be “bizarrely captivating” and can be read as a standalone book. The same is true of book two, Holiday for The Hostile, and also the third book, The Hostile Game. Book four will also be a standalone, but it would be even more enjoyable to start with The Hostile and work your way through. I promise it will be worth your while.
