Lou runs a bar in Chicago 1980 and is being shot at whilst naked on a rooftop, Wendy is in despair over the population crisis combined with the animal-catastrophe in London 2055, and cat-loving Antonio is ripping off beach tourists in Barcelona 2024 with no recollection of his past. Lou, Wendy, Antonio; they’re all related and their lives intertwine for the benefit of humankind, but how, when, and why? Start Right Here is a rollercoaster ride across time; a delectable cocktail of humour and time-travel, with a dash of romance, a dog, a monkey, and a whole lot of gin.

A Word from the Author

author-martin-skate-pictureA rollercoaster-ride of time-travel and how the lives of three people from different decades relate and intertwine with each-other. I truly love a great time-travel romp and wrote a story that I would like to pick up and read. It’s got humour, romance, dogs, cats, engaging dialogue, and hopefully it leaves the readers wondering what happens next. Start Right Here is my first novel and I’ve found the process thoroughly entertaining and enriching, I’ve picked up a lot of great learnings from a truly supportive network of writers, worked hard on ensuring there’s a good pace, narrative, and story structure, and with some great initial reviews I feel the whole journey to be extremely rewarding.

Know More

The Spike Collection, ten short stories randomly thrown together to take you on a ride of emotions, thought provocation, and charm. Each story focuses on the key characters’ thoughts, challenges, and how they are richer for their experiences. The stories cover tales from suburbia, life changing moments, superstardom, and what to do if you do not fancy door-to-door selling for the day.

If you enjoy short stories that take you through a rollercoaster ride of emotions then this is for you. Ten thought provoking and random short stories that truly entertain.

The Spike: Sam is flying through life getting fired at every job he gets, until one day he finally realises where his major talents lie. This is Sam’s journey up until he reaches his realisation that defines his whole life.

The Siren: All the boys turned to jelly when they were around Tina, so what happened when Brad was the only one to get close to the Siren?

Rocco: It is tough being galaxy-wide famous, follow Rocco on his life of fame, adulation, and on meeting the love of his life, Eve.

Twenty Pence Pieces: During the summer holidays Ted and Dee have a simple plan to buy something super cool, and they have a fun and enterprising method on how to get the money to do it.

The Bridge: Helen, Stefano, Roland, they all have their hobbies and goals which ultimately drive them to a meeting-crescendo of devastating circumstance.

Time Travel Tim: A little boy’s wish comes true when his fictional television hero suddenly appears in his bedroom and takes him on a quick adventure.

Snapshot: Being away at sea for long periods of time can be fatal on a relationship, as this account of a returning sailor tells us.

Nine Coffees: Russ worked in a boring office, he needed more, but what to do? He found what he was looking for one morning in a coffee shop, Luka was the shot of caffeine he needed.

Chelmsford: During a day of door-to-door selling Jason has the great fortune to be joined by someone who decides to play this would-be humdrum day ever so slightly different.

Hear-dunnit: Retired and widowed Pat awakes to plan his final hurrah, and looks back on some fond memories.

So many of these stories were kicking around in my head for so long that I suddenly had the eureka moment to write them all out and put them into a book… and tadaaaaaa, here it is! A mix of tales, all written for giggles, for sharing moments, and to entertain. ‘The Spike’ is loosely based on a true story, whilst ‘the Bridge’ is pure fiction with characters we often collide with, and many others are written with identifiable situations to us all! An eclectic collection of fun tales that I hope joins the great tradition of the short story collections.

Know More

The first novelette in the Apocalypse Memoirs series. Bob is a 40-ish ne’er-do-well living in the city when the world ends, but it isn’t your standard Armageddon. Bob soon finds out that the demons and angels battling in the skies are just an opening act for The Mandate, a cabal of malevolent beings who’ve arrived to chaperone humanity to its ultimate judgment. Bob is your hapless guide and would-be hero down the Path of Absurdity in this dark, satirical farce, which features a motley squad of bad-ass warriors, an ill-tempered sulphur beast, and one giant pigeon.

A Word from the Author

photo Author Eliot MercyIt is difficult for me to describe what led me to create the world of The Apocalypse Memoirs. I believe it came out of the frustrations of trying to make my writing better. I felt constricted by my attempts at technique and craft, and needed a place where I could just send an alienated, self-loathing character caroming around a pinball machine of absurd situations. I think of it as a pulp playground, where I can be as ridiculous, as irreverent, and as disturbing as I wish…and keep as far as possible from my exhausting self-criticism. It’s a fun place to romp.
