I have many book ideas floating in my head, but I’ve always wanted to try something more “edge of your seat-ish” like a thriller or suspense with a twisty ending. As far as stories go, the movie The Usual Suspects is a great example.
I’m also a sucker for those random headlines and videos that show up in my social media news feeds, showcasing something incredibly wild and unbelievable to watch or read. From there, I wondered could I craft a story that’s as jaw-dropping as some of the stuff I see on social media? Then Tangled was born.
A collection of five short stories: Dark Drama & Psychological thriller/horror…
Some of the reviews for the separate stories…
‘… disturbing and sad… deals with themes of murder, abuse, self-abuse, sex, love and loathing, to mention a few…’
‘Fast paced, explicit at times and at other times horrific…’
‘The explicit nature of the material is non-exploitative, and in keeping with the book’s tense, foreboding tone.’
‘A spare, suspenseful short story which, in an economy of words, conveys great emotion and maximum involvement.’
A dark journey on sexual and domestic abuse with great messages….’
‘…great, well written and compelling short story that, unfortunately, could happen in real life.’
‘Amanda uses her words well and quickly builds up the plot in a clever way leaving the reader to sometimes put the pieces together. She treats her readers with respect by not explaining everything in detail. This makes for a fast moving short story.’

I released separate dark stories as kindle books, including dark drama, suspense and psychological thriller. Reviews were great, but I did learn from them, and decided to ask my editor to work with me to make them even better. I had since written a new story as well, so we put all five stories together and I published them as a collection. Readers can now get all five stories for the price of one, so it’s win, win!
Despite the content, including abuse, violence and murder, I really enjoy writing stories like these, and so do many others!

With his sole guardian turned stalker and the police on the wrong side, 19-year-old Night has little choice but to enter into an elaborate ruse in exchange for refuge. As Night’s power increases, will he be able to control his feral impulses, and more importantly, will he care?

Whatever The Impulse is a dark tale that follows an untapped prodigy, Night Shannien, from total obscurity, to teen idol, in the mid 1980’s pop-music era. It begins in the isolation of coastal Oregon where locals know Night as the deaf bartender who works at the Emerald Shore, a bar-restaurant owned by his father. But why Night is forced to pretend to be a deaf-mute is not the only secret his father keeps from him.
It takes a tenacious teen girl who visits the restaurant and his father’s own girlfriend to blow apart all the lies and launch Night into a new life, a world her doesn’t understand–as a fugitive–and the person who he literally dreamed could give him a normal life offers him everything but. Finally, with a growing list of impossible challenges, new threats, and his past still hunting him down, Night falls back on the only guideline that makes sense… Whatever The Impulse.
