A Word from the Author

Author Claudy Conn pictureCraving-First Thirst came to me because of my readers who took the time to write and tell me they wanted another vampire series.
My stories are character driven. Everyone who plays a part in the making of a story comes to life and tells me their point of view.

Devin’s character from the start was a given. He is a man whose life is ripped out from under him. Drawn immediately into evil, he breaks away and is determined to overcome the beast within.

Bobbie Skye is my heroine, a witch who experienced compassion and love when her parents were taken from her and her mom’s best friend, Elle stepped up and took her in. Thus, she is all heart, and so it begins. Craving-First Thirst (Book #1)

Know More

This collection of supernatural and fantasy stories brings the reader multisensory experiences where mists sweep across city streets and urban canals. A slate quarry and tropical island bring light, colour, but no easing of drama whilst dilapidated city streets and a damp living room are haunted by characters seeking resolution.

Paul and Lynette work for a ghost tour company and find their Halloween shift is more thrilling than they anticipated. Rosara lurks through the Backstreets dispensing justice for the forgotten inhabitants. Josie lives alone, living with a memory that ties her to the canal, while Paradita battles with the urge to leave her tropical paradise to find herself. Zoe seeks to encourage her mother to leave her home, whilst Roxie is forced to reveal a secret truth as she rushes to save the life of her colleague.

A Word from the Author

author-k-morral-pictureI love reading and writing fantasy, and have been doing so for many years. Worlds Apart is my first step into publication: an exciting and terrifying one that I hope will be the beginning of an enjoyable long journey.

The collection of short stories included within this anthology were written several years ago for competitions, sadly without success– the exception being Revelation written specifically for inclusion in this anthology. Three of the stories are ghost stories, whilst the other three each follow a different fantasy creature (dragon, mermaid and vampire). They have been combined into this anthology because of their shared emphasis on setting. Each story is written to bring the reader to the place of the action, to share the sights, sounds and smells that the characters experience during these tense dramas. I hope you enjoy the experiences.

Winner of the 2012 Global Ebook Award for “Best Speculative Fiction – Contemporary Fantasy (set after 1940)”

There’s a new kind of vampire in the City of Angels.

Los Angeles Homicide Detective Kel Langston finds that out the hard way when he survives a brutal attack in a dark alley only to realize he’s been turned into a monster. Stuck halfway between the living and the dead, his existence becomes a nightmare war for control between his human side and the burning hunger that gnaws at him, urging him to do things no human should ever want to do.

And as if that isn’t enough, Kel finds himself forced into hunting the creatures that did this to him, a new kind of vampire humans don’t even know exist…a kind of vampire known only as Takers. Something he hates
and can’t resist
and doesn’t know how to kill.

Blood…souls…family…an urban fantasy sure to give you chills as you wonder if this is truly why criminals are criminals.

Takers
Your blood is only the beginning.

A Word from the Author

author-chris-davis-pictureTakers was my first (and so far, only) foray into writing vampires. In fact, I never thought I’d even be interested in vampires beyond loving the likes of Christopher Lee in the role. And then something opened my eyes to seeing vampires in a different way.

For a time, working as a journalist for the now-defunct website Hawaii Five-0 Online, I undertook watching previous roles that its two main stars, Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan, had undertaken before they did Hawaii Five-0. I then did reviews of those movies and television shows for the site. One of the TV series O’Loughlin was in briefly was CBS’ Moonlight, about a vampire private investigator. I had never quite seen a vampire like that (not that I’d ever really sought them out, mind you) and it really got me to thinking.

By the time I finished watching the sadly short-lived series, the Takers protagonist Kel, a loner hard-boiled Los Angeles homicide detective, was pretty well-formed. It was like he showed up one night and said, “Okay, let’s do this.” So do it I did…for four books! I was quite proud that this first book in the series – the first book I’d ever gotten published – won the 2012 Global Ebook Award for “Best Speculative Fiction – Contemporary Fantasy (set after 1940).” I figured I must have done something right with my vampires…who don’t only need your blood to survive, by the way. That’s why the tagline to the series is, “Your blood is only the beginning…”

I very much hope you enjoy Takers…it’s quite a wild ride!
