Know More

A non-technical narrative of a 28000- mile voyage around the world.in my sailing boat ‘Greylag’. The dream, on occasions, became a nightmare. Yet out of Greylag’s story comes an overwhelming impression of a journey full of interest and excitement, and the fun and enjoyment of new places and faces. An endeavour rewarded with a strong sense of achievement, certainly; but also with unfading memories of our world and its people, still for the most part beautiful. Many dream of making such a journey but few ever find the resolve and time to sail their dream. This book is for the determined and the dreamers. Those already planning ‘their ‘journey of a lifetime’ will find inspiration in this story, it will stiffen their resolve. The dreamers will dream more vividly, and those who prefer to do their travelling through the pages of a book will be taken on a mighty journey.

A Word from the Author

photo author Dick AllanA lifelong sailor, I retired in 1995 and set off on a 28,000 – mile voyage round the world in my yacht ‘Greylag’. On my return to England I wrote an account of the adventure in my first book ‘Sailing My Dream’. Weary of the sea, I sold ‘Greylag’ and bought a narrowboat to explore the inland waterways of England and France. This led to my second book, a historical novel set around the building of the Basingstoke Canal. For Poto Paddu, I return to the sea. In the idyllic surroundings of Indonesia, and mindful of the frequent reports of piracy in the area, the inspiration for this story developed. It is my idea of the nightmare of piracy coming true.
