A Word from the Author

Written as a direct sequel to ‘The Tainted Dollar’ and was published in June 2015.
Here we see how Jake Base, the ex US marshal with the rather unique background, has moved on with his life.
We find him well established and married to the woman of his dreams, Maria. Life appears to have a habit of supplying problems when they’re least expected – as Jake soon finds out.
Several of the characters who made their first appearances in ‘The Tainted Dollar’ are back again here. We have one main new addition – a lady by the name of Anna Constance who doesn’t act too ladylike in the way she conducts herself! Indeed she soon becomes a major thorn in our hero’s side as the story progresses.
While I was writing and editing this second book I kept returning back to the ‘original’ unfinished story and would work on that for a few weeks at a time. Leaving ‘The Sheriff’s Sister……’ for a while gave me the benefit of viewing it again with fresh eyes when I returned. Always a good plan!
One big move I made around this time was to actually add Jake Base into what was to become the third book. While I already had a group of men going out into the New Mexico wilderness to prospect for their fortunes Jake was not originally one of their number. Bringing him into the story, now at a different place in his own life with varied fortunes, and making it seem as if he’d been there from day 1 was a challenge.
