It’s okay to admit your special. This book is part therapy, part creative explorations, part short stories, part fact, part fiction, and always invigorating. Quinton takes you through his bizarre beginnings in Junction City, Kansas through being one of the top publishers in San Francisco–the first 10 years of his writing/publishing career. This book is for anyone who has ever written anything. If you’re thinking about writing something, write the first paragraph then purchase this book. Or, if you’re a risk-taker, buy this book first. Be forewarned. If you read this book, you may never be hungry again. Quinton shows how to turn words into food and explains why. This is the first of a series of books Quinton will produce in the next three years. Collect the series. Book two and book three will be published in the next two years. Look out Lord of the Rings, there’s competition coming up in the rear. Enjoy.
A Word from the Author
After 40 years of publishing, writing and raising hell, Caribbean Jamaican African American Intellectual and satirist Raymond Quinton is ready to share the first third of his life in this outrageous memoir book. According to Quinton, he’s 59 years old, has some great stories and opinions and is not afraid to use them. Quinton experiments with style, story-telling and cleverness in this, the first of three memoir books. This first book covers 1974 through 1992. His humble beginnings were in Kansas, in the middle of nowhere. His Jamaican mother and Caribbean father settled there after a final 4-year tour (with his 12 brothers and sisters) in France. This book includes stories about his experience as the ONLY Zine publisher in Denver. He migrated to Denver after completing his Journalism studies at Kansas State, participating in the two most prestigious internships in the country (Kansas City Star and American Society of Magazine Editors in NY). As a publisher, librarian, jazz pianist, he spewed out satire by night, did geological and law research by day, then even opened for legendary musician Dizzy Gillespie at Denver’s Union station. Quinton eventually made it to San Francisco where he authored and published one the most popular restaurant guides while working as a cookbook/home improvement/gardening book editor for Ortho books. His brush with fame scared the hell out of him, so he went back to manipulating the media behind the scenes. At 27 he became Vice-President of the Guide Publishing Group and founded the Bay City Guide, the Rental Guide and the Commercial Property Guide. The undercurrent of Quinton’s book is that you’re not done until you’re dead. He is currently working on books 2 and 3, recently published his first crime thriller, is a regular featured reader of his popular children’s book THE BEST RIDE EVER!, and he is paving the way for his performance reading titled “Party Like A Writer-Half-world Tour” that includes music, readings from his 6 books, self-produced dance music, and ending with a dance party featuring his alter-ego, DJ Fog Machine. All of Quinton’s books face off with race, culture, class as principle elements of life.
