Our Review
In The Mirror – welcome to my world book 1 is a great read; Although at first I thought this would be another book about a magical mirror and a girl who through it enters a magical world or another dimension, it is much more than that and the resemblance with other books I have read ends just there; Once I started reading In the Mirror I couldn’t put it down as I was forced to relentlessly turn page upon page for I wanted to know what was going to happen next or there was so much I wanted answers for. Author Krystal Cyrus blended mystery and thriller in the exact right proportions. The story inches forward unravelling the mystery clue by clue until reaching an amazing climax/conflict and subsequent resolution(Although this can be read as a standalone book as it has a proper beginning and ending this is not the end of the complete story as this is the first book of a series). The story is overflowing with the paranormal; the magical world is filled will all sort of creatures: vampires, banshees, demons, angels and many others critters. There are also (of course) many magical abilities, some characters have just one while others can yield more. Many who find the fantastical world won’t be aware of possessing paranormal abilities and they need to be tested and go through arduous training in order to use them and control them; the latter is very important for if you have an explosive personality then it will be very dangerous if you can’t control your powers both for you and those around you. Regarding the characterization author Krystal Cyrus did a splendid job, we can get to know fully well the main character, Giselle Thomas, her immediate family and friends from the other reality; it was a pleasure to read the interactions of Giselle and her siblings, she is a teenager – the baby of the house – a house full of men (her mother died) and she has to fight hard to get her place and assert herself as someone who can do her own things and have the opportunity to decide things for herself – For her dismay she will find that it is not only at home that she will face that specific problem for when she finds the magical world and makes friends there she will suffer from the same problem: overprotective people who won’t tell her everything she wants to know and who won’t let her do the things she wants to do. Another thing that I must mention is that the dialogues are very good and author Krystal Cyrus has the great gift of sprinkling the right amount of humor at the right places. If you are a fan of mysteries, thrillers and the paranormal do you a favor and read this awesome book.
A Word from the Author
The mirror has a way of showing you more than your reflection. Giselle Thomas learned this the hard way after accepting a mirror pendant necklace from her dying grandmother.
Up until then, life had been a constant struggle between family and financial stability. Giselle, being only fourteen, was trapped in a loop of being too young yet too grown for everything. She wanted to find her place and bring her family happiness. More than anything, she wanted an adventure.
When Giselle discovered a portal to a magical world, she felt that all her dreams had finally come true. What she failed to remember was that nightmares are dreams too. There is always a lick of darkness that follows the light.
