One day, Aidan saves a baby dragon from torment from his fellow soldiers. For this, he was exiled.
On his way out of the country, Aidan is killed.
But for Aidan, death was only the beginning.
He wakes up three thousand years later, watched over by the very dragon he saved, now full-grown. Disturbed by his altered appearance and disgusted by unstable magical powers he didn’t have before, Aidan is also horrified to find that the world has been taken over by an ancient evil that started in Delmar not long after his death. With the help of a time-traveling wizard apprentice and the dragon, Aidan must travel back in time and save the world from this evil. But after his bitter exile, does he really want to?
A Word from the Author
The Roar of a Dragon started as a side project back when writing was still only a hobby for me. After I was diagnosed with a vestibular condition in 2008, it became the most important project of my life. Writing was one of the few things I could do, and I found myself immersed in this new, vibrant world I had created, following the characters along on their journeys. Writing the book helped me deal with many trying times during that period, and when I finally completed the book in 2011, the sense of accomplishment I experienced was beyond anything I have ever felt.
Aidan is the son of a farmer in the land of Delmar with dreams of one day joining the White Army as a knight. After his father’s death, he is left to run the farm on his own, but his dreams of becoming a knight would not die. A chance encounter with a knight by the name of Norvin, who attempts to bully the young farmer, leads to Aidan’s discovery by the White Army’s general, and afterwards Aidan is taken into the military. Facing many trials on his path, Aidan slowly begins to earn the respect of his peers and the people of Delmar. One day, during a time when Aidan is on the cusp of being considered as a knight, he saves a baby dragon from the torture of Norvin and his cronies. In the anti-dragon country of Delmar, this is a crime punishable by exile, and with Norvin’s help, Aidan suffers that exact fate. As he is being led from the country, Norvin kills Aidan.
But for Aidan, death was only the beginning.
Aidan awakens three thousand years later, watched over by the very dragon he saved. The world has been overrun with a terrible evil that began in Delmar just after his death—Sirak, the evil overlord, has changed the people of the world into Ther-lor, mindless beings that live only to serve the will of Sirak. To Aidan’s dismay, he finds his appearance drastically altered to a ghostly shell of his former self, and he also finds himself in possession of unstable magical powers. With the help of a time-travelling apprentice wizard, Aidan must travel back to his own time and prevent this evil from ever happening. But for Aidan, the sting of his betrayal in Delmar still lingers. Is saving the world something he even wants to do?
Writing this book was an amazing experience, and I can only hope that people enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
