Know More
Teen rocketeer Amy Sutter is back in the second installment of the Amy the Astronaut series.
In the sequel to Amy the Astronaut and the Flight for Freedom, Amy gets busted for stealing and accidentally destroying a sand jet during a joy ride. Her punishment puts her back on the spaceship Liberty Bell with her friends Yale and Madison. Their assignment is to provide aid to the residents of a planet that suffered a world-wide natural disaster. When the crew arrives at their destination, they are approached by a man who claims that they are all in danger from a disgraced scientist who has taken refuge on the planet. As the crew investigates, they discover a plot that could destroy the Union and change the course of Earth’s war with the Crownaxians.
A Word from the Author
Character development is an important part of writing a book. Amy Sutter’s evolution is one of the most fascinating aspects of the series so far. In the first book, she is naive and unsophisticated, as most twelve-year-olds are. As her story progresses, she gradually grows into a confident yet weary teenager whose experiences shape her opinions and actions. She learns that the universe is a much larger place than she realized, and that not all of our perceived enemies are evil. Amy’s growth in the second book is influenced by the horrors of war, and the loss of someone close to her pushes her to the edge of her humanity.
