The Cry of a Raven

The Epic Conclusion to The Roar of a Dragon Trilogy

By Robert Blanchard.

Know More

The Cry of a Raven is the last book in The Roar of a Dragon trilogy, started by The Roar of a Dragon and followed by The Treachery of a Weasel.  In the book, Aidan and the Knights of Iskandor must attempt to unite the countries of the world in a final battle against Sirak and the Ther-lor.  Along the way, King Baladir sends Aidan on a treacherous quest to retrieve the Willow Armor, a magical armor that could help them out greatly in the war.  The Armor is also a link to the disappearance of Baladir’s brother, who was an explorer.  Aidan finds it very difficult to juggle all of these great responsibilities as he prepares to defeat Sirak once and for all.

Adding to Aidan’s anxiety, the Knights of Iskandor are facing their own troubles.  Due to previous revelations, Aidan and the dragon Iskandor are no longer nearly as close as they once were, barely speaking at times.  The death of a close companion hits Derrick very hard, and he turns to alcohol to get him through his emotional struggles, changing him harshly from the jovial, trustworthy character he once was.  A dwarf, a new addition to the group, causes turmoil from within with his antagonistic behavior, particularly with an elven member of the Knights, also a new member.  And last but not least, while enlisting the mages for help against the undead Ther-lor, the Knights are supplied with a necromancer – a mute child.  The other Knights are less than happy with having to bring a child along on their dangerous quest.

Can Aidan overcome all these obstacles and end the threat of Sirak once and for all?  Or are the odds too insurmountable?  And who will – or won’t – survive?

A Word from the Author

Author Robert Blanchard picture

The Cry of a Raven is the book I’d been waiting to write for a very long time.  It is the culmination of the journeys of all of these characters, and a resolution to the story that has been over ten years in the making.  Unlike my other books, this one did not take nearly as long to write, as the story had been stuck in my head since I finished The Roar of a Dragon all those years ago.  The books have won numerous awards over the years, and I can only hope that the readers enjoy the journey every bit as much as I’ve enjoyed sharing it with them.

My favorite journeys in this book are the ones with Aidan and Derrick.  In the previous books, I think it would have been hard to imagine these two ever at odds with each other, but in this book, the extremely difficult circumstances have had an adverse effect on both heroes.  I think it’s interesting that as Derrick sinks farther and farther into his depression, Aidan begins to become the leader more and more that he struggled to be in the previous books.  It’s a good look at how stressful situations can affect people differently.  Hopefully, the readers feel the same way and have a vested interest in the story!
