Lissa Fleming has two goals: graduate high school and get out of her small hometown of Abandon. She doesn’t even make it to graduation when a jaguar, Darklily, approaches her. Unable to believe that the big cat is speaking–let alone asking her to travel to a foreign planet to save it–Lissa denies its existence. Desperate, Darklily insists Lissa is a shapeshifter and refuses to leave without her.

With less than two hours to decide, Lissa makes a snap decision and abandons her future. Lissa Fleming has been alone most of her life, ever since her dad fell into depression and her mom–well she was never really around in the first place. A week before graduation, and her much anticipated move away from home, a new boy, Ryan, moves into town. Lissa tries to keep her distance, she can’t afford to lose sight of her goals, but she’s inexplicably drawn to him. To make things more confusing her old best friend, Trevor, decides he wants to be in her life again. The boys are pushed to the back of her mind though when she’s surprised by a talking jaguar. Terrified, Lissa races home only to find her dad has checked himself into a mental institute and her mom has moved out. With little time to wrap her head around what happened, Lissa finds herself face to face with the jaguar, Darklily, once more. Unwilling to be ignored, Darklily tells Lissa that her planet, Pandorma, is being destroyed by a pair of powerful shapeshifters. She claims that Lissa is the only one who can stop the pair because she is a shapeshifter just like them. Lissa doesn’t believe her, after all, if she were some kind of shapeshifter her dad would’ve told her. Nevertheless, Lissa, along with Ryan and Trevor, goes with Darklily to Pandorma. Within hours the beauty of the planet is eclipsed by its dangers. Lissa quickly realizes that in order to survive, she must accept that she’s a shapeshifter and find a way to unlock her newfound power. But will it be enough? Up against two skilled killers, it’ll have to be, otherwise she risks losing everything.
