Author Rowena Kinread
Bio
Rowena Kinread grew up in Ripon, Yorkshire amid 5 siblings and a horde of pets. She began to read at the age of 4 and soon became a weekly visitor to the library. She finished school at 18 years of age and, as her parents could not afford to send her to university, went to Germany to improve her language skills. She worked for Lufthansa, married the love of her life, and raised their three children. She supported her husband in his physiotherapy practice for over 30 years. At the beginning of the nineties, she began writing non-fiction books. After completing a six-month creative writing course in Cambridge she began writing fiction. Her special love was history, but rather than the typical historical love stories, her first book was about the dramatic life of St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland. Her latest book, a family saga set in Switzerland in the mid-19th century, depicts the life struggles of those who live in poverty against the privileges of the rich. This latest book “The Matchstick Boy” has already won two awards.
