When did you start writing, what moved you to start writing?

I began my writing journey after my sons had begun to move out on their own. I took a creative writing course and got hooked. I began by writing short essays on issues that challenged residents here in Madison County. I found I had an aptitude in writing short stories with what I knew living and raising my three boys in Indiana. When I wrote the short story that spurned me to learn about the legend from the Philippines, I got advice from my youngest son. He said to pursue this and make it bigger.

– Tell us about your book.

This published book, “The Islands Tell Of It” was written by a detailed narrative from the main character, Detective Glenda McMahan. At first she listened to the outlandish account of an assailant changing into some type of creature after a specific type of prey, then decided to discredit the victim. Her partner, Detective Luther Charles took a much different approach. He got on his office computer and went on a detailed search, beginning with the only clue they had, “Balut”.

As cases very similar in method and bizarre effects on each victim, Glenda’s initial method of action changed. She went on to stack up details and present in a visual manner by joining Luther build up a large chart in the division for all their colleagues to see. What caused Glenda to press on past the “point of no return” was the incident involving Luther Charles’s pregnant fiancé. Althea and her unborn child survived the brutal attacker’s plans. Althea ordered Glenda to find this culprit and bring it to full justice.

Write what you know, and the places that you know. Don’t give up no matter how many rejection letters come back. Take writing courses, online and otherwise as much as you can. Read about how other writers who are successful get noticed and published time and time again. Read as much as you write.

Staying on the research for more of the Aswang while I am putting together the sequel to “The Islands Tell Of It”.

A final message for circleofbooks.com readers.

No matter how late in life I began my writing career, I stay excited and driven to produce books that readers will get enthralled with. I love that finally my writing after seventeen years is being read by so many. A writer wants more than riches that their prose is being read.
