A Word from the Author

photo author Nicholas PaschallThis was a book originally inspired to be for my nephews and nieces but spiraled out of control into true horror that they should not read until they are around fifteen or sixteen. The book plays on certain religious tones and aspects that, while somewhat strained, summarize the superstitions in an easy to understand fashion. It’s not an overly gory book, though blood is spilled in this work. I like to think it represents family ties and the importance one can place on blood relations, and how such trust can be shattered if leaned on too heavily. It has been well received and is generally loved by all who read it, with compliments on the pacing being one of the most common.

For inspiration, I of course pictured my nephews and nieces (names have been changed) as well as some of the people that I grew up with. They could read this book and not know it was them, but in my eyes, it will always honor those that I called friends and foes alike. I took me a little over two months to write this work, during which I listened to playlists of popular teen songs to try and capture the spirit of youth for the characters. I would say that when it is all said and done, this is a book that is a declaration to the world that I am an author, and this is what I plan to do.
