A Word from the Author

Author Martin McGregor pictureThe stories were written over the last two years. I cover a diverse range of subjects but try to add different and unexpected twists to each genre.

I write with the specific intention of mirroring events in real life, and how individuals would cope in such scenarios. I like my readers to feel for the characters and try to add just the right amount of depth to each story. I have been inspired by the horror greats like King, Herbert, Koontz and Hutson. The front cover depicts one of my characters from the story Helter Skelter. It tells of an ordinary man trapped alone in his flat, with monsters outside of his door. He is running out of supplies, and becoming delusional. He needs water and food, so he has no choice but to face his demons and to venture outside. It is one of my readers favourite stories.

This also features the story entitled Emma’s Ghost. Two of my friends committed suicide at relatively young ages, and this story pays homage not just to them, but to the large number of teenage suicides that have occurred in my home town over the last ten years. There are a few sci-fi orientated stories included, that feature the Hadron Collider, The last days of Mars, and the end of the Earth.

I try to write in a style that makes people stop and think without being too reliant on detail. The mind is a powerful tool if it is
allowed to create its own scenarios. We are in a world that has never been better connected, but as a race we seem to be drifting further apart. These are stories that you can read in ten minutes to an hour and are perfect for a short escape. I am a huge fan of horror in all formats, and I am proud of the praise these stories have received.
