Our Review

A very good and interesting book if you are interested in traveling to Africa(Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco or Kenya) or if you are interested in these countries in general.

The book are the travel memoirs of Grahame Elson who describes his experiences (and of his partner) in the above mentioned countries in the first decade of the XXI century – as such it must be noted that some places mentioned by the author might not be safe to visit anymore or don’t present the same characteristics these days.

The writing style is engaging and includes a good doses of humor and information about the visited lands and their interesting sites. One of the things I really liked was the included historical information, both ancient and not so ancient (i.e. colonial times etc.) that the author added to his account.

A Word from the Author

author grahame elson picture

Join me as I spend six weeks travelling across Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Kenya. From a Nile cruise to the Red Sea Coast, from the markets of Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains, from the beauty of Sidi bou Said to the Roman ruins at el Djem and from the bustling port of Mombasa to a Safari in Tsavo national park. If it left me in awe, if it made me pause for thought or if it made me laugh then it’s probably in the book. It might be how the Star Wars films nearly started a war, or the significance of the colours used in hieroglyphs or maybe how some Africans are trying to preserve the wildlife by encouraging MORE hunting! Whatever it is I hope you will join me in learning about it and enjoy it just as much as I did.
