Witness a chilling look into the beginning of magic, an infection turning its human victims into weapons of destruction. And then it kills them. In order to survive, young hunter Jacob Wildleaf realizes he must seek control over the magic within himself.

Yet, Regent of the Blackwood Kingdom wants to purge all traces of magic from the land. When his soldiers burn down Jacob’s village, leaving him as the only survivor, Jacob realizes the extermination is mounting to a nightmarish scale. He’s thrust into battle against the Regent’s soldiers and magically created beasts to prevent more bloodshed than magic could ever cause on its own.

A Word from the Author

author kc blackbyrn pictureStirring Power started out as a fever dream to put a book into the world that I would love to read. It took five years’ worth of headaches, frustrations, exhilarations, and rewrites (many, many of them) to flesh out exactly what I wanted in this story. And what I wanted was to explain, via this story, how magic came into the world of fantasy and how wrong we all were about its beginnings.

Know More

Etruvia has known peace for twenty years. But this time of peace has brought corruption and greed. The nobility has taken control, and the memories of great victories of old have faded. Crime is rife and the once proud people are little more than peasants. As a great evil rises in the desolate north, can a forgotten king and an embittered former war hero wake a nation from its stupor and build an army strong enough to give it a fighting chance?

A Word from the Author

author Al Burke pictureI’ve always loved books. I’ve read almost every genre possible, but I’ve favoured fantasy since I finally read Lord of the Rings 25 years or so ago. When I decided to write a book, it stood to reason that fantasy would be my genre. The problem with writing a book in this day and age is trying to be different from the pack. You could consider any two books in a genre to be similar without the need to be too convincing. The trick is to create just a little piece that separates you from the rest. This is what I endeavoured to do with The King is Dead. The standard basic plot in fantasy is the hero coming from nothing to save the world, often (and somewhat unlikely) overcoming impossible odds along the way. Hey, it’s fantasy, so anything goes. Right? Well, here’s my take on it. What if we have a couple of men who should be on top of the world, already prepared to face the ultimate enemy? Instead, we have what would nowadays be referred to as underachievers, struggling to cope with the pressure of being something they couldn’t manage previously. Can they save the day? Do they even want to? This is my first book, and I enjoyed writing it immensely. Hopefully you can have a similar experience reading it.

Lancelot: Her Story is a fantasy/historical fiction/lesbian novel by Carol Anne Douglas.

Know More

A young girl sees a man rape and murder her mother. She grabs a stick and puts out his eye. Her father raises her as a boy so she will be safe from men’s attacks. She practices and practices until she becomes a great fighter – Lancelot. She wants to protect women, and she does. Lancelot hears about King Arthur, a just king across the sea, and journeys to earn a place at Camelot. She vows to serve him, but fears that Arthur and his men will discover that she is a woman and send her away. Lancelot is shocked to realize that she is falling in love with the king’s wife, Guinevere. Guinevere is a strong woman who would have preferred to be queen in her own right, not just through marriage. Saxons attack Arthur’s kingdom, and Lancelot finds out that fighting a war is far different from saving women in single combat. The savagery of war devastates her. According to Curious Wine author Katherine V. Forrest, “Lancelot: Her Story takes a place alongside Nicola Griffith‚Äôs brilliant Hild (2013, set in the Middle Ages), in its highly detailed depiction of life in medieval times, in its reimagining of the Arthurian legends, specifically that noblest, purest of heart Knight of the Round Table, that polestar of the Arthurian legends, Lancelot. The story is both ingenious and suspenseful in its reworking of the tapestry of medieval times and its endless wars through a feminist prism.”

A Word from the Author

Author Carol Anne PictureLancelot: Her Story looks at what would happen if Lancelot were a woman in disguise. The characters of Lancelot, Guinevere, and Gawaine have fascinated me for a long time. The story is told from their viewpoints. It is set in 6th century Britain.

Lancelot is usually portrayed as sad or solemn. The original “knight of the woeful countenance.” Why is Lancelot sad? Surely loving a woman who is married to someone else is a good reason, but what else in Lancelot’s background produces the sadness?

Guinevere must be discontented with Arthur to fall in love with Lancelot. Why is Guinevere discontented? What kind of person is she? What kind of person is Arthur?

Gawaine is a hero who is different from Lancelot. How did the son of one of Arthur’s rivals come to join Arthur? Gawaine is both a kind person and a womanizer. How can he be both? How did he become both?

These are questions that interested me.
