Darius, Alex, and Myrtle are going off to college. Darius was late applying and must find a room for the semester at the university. Alex has a room in an old dorm on campus. His roommate, John Porter from Gastonia is a fine stable sophomore whom they both like upon first meeting. Darius thinks he will be a stabilizing influence on Alex. John promotes the two friends during rush at his frat house where they soon encounter strife. The dark squabble results in a murder and John is immediately the prime suspect. As Darius investigates the background of the murder victim, other dark history emerges. The other suspects are eliminated one by one and soon John finds himself on trial for the murder. It seems only Darius believes him innocent and only Darius, with Myrtel to the rescue, is seriously scrounging to find the murderer.
