Criminal Psychologist Patricia Holmes has completed her training and become a fully fledged detective, but it’s cost her her marriage and Detective Sargent Rick McCoy’s is not fairing much better due to Juliet’s jealousy of Pat. Together they investigate the brutal murder of a man where a biblical quotation was left on the wall in the victims blood. Pat believes the killer is suffering extreme situational schizophrenia and is targeting men and women who lie on their profiles on an internet dating website called Tender Nights. As the body count rises with more killings, each one more horrific than the last, they go undercover and create profiles to lure the murderer to them. But Rick must protect Pat from the killer and it’s too much for Juliet and she leaves him. Now Rick and Pat are separated and living under the same roof, but security cameras monitor their every move as they strive to keep their lust, and killer at bay.
Meanwhile in his cell in the high security wing of the mental hospital, serial killer PPP plans his escape and revenge on Rick and Pat. He has fashioned a weapon, and has come up with a foolproof plan which he knows will work. When he is free he will deliver for them both, a fate worse than death.
Finally free to follow their desires, Rick and Pat find themselves hunted by two serial killers. When Pats husband is horrifically slain, their new affair becomes public knowledge and they are charged with Toms murder.
