A Word from the Author
The University Club: A Campus Affair was inspired by my years working both in kitchens and at universities in North America and in Europe. Years of collected vignettes and moments, including time spent in the south of France, went into forming the four months in the life of a chef owner in a small university town. I still have some of the collection of napkins and restaurant menues on which I scribbled ideas when they came to me while I was cooking. I have always loved books about food on the one hand, and the intrigue and comedy found in the Campus Novel genre on the other. I wanted to write a novel about a campus chef – one that I would like to read, but was never able to find.
