Valley of the Serpent is the seventh book by award-winning author, Alan Reynolds to be published by Fisher King. The original concept changed as I did more research from a basic adventure novel into a sweeping tale of under-hand dealings in the world of Uranium mining. Featuring Harry Bentham, a young geologist, the first two chapters deal with a near-death experience for him whilst on a field-trip in Derbyshire which shapes his life. He eventually gets head-hunted by an unscrupulous international mining company and the story follows his journey from its headquarters in Switzerland to the Northern Territories of Australia where his eyes are opened by a series of events that threatens his life. I found the research fascinating, learning about rock formations and the ecological issues caused by some mining industries – very relevant in today’s world of fracking. The book is now available and already has 4 five star reviews.

Review

The Coat is an awesome thriller/crime fiction novel by Alan Raynolds. It is centered around the underground world of human trafficking. These people need new girls all the time for their unsavory schemes, and to get them they use old methods like kidnapping but also newer ones(The Internet) to trick the girls into going with them to the UK with the promise of better lives. Keith Woodley an unsuspecting Englishman with financial problems gets caught in the nets of that trafficking gang… To get out of it will be a nightmare – if he ever does that is. The story revolves around the human trafficking but also around Keith’s business and family life. If you like a good thriller get this one, you won’t be disappointed.

The thriller is my sixth book and there is an interesting story on how it was inspired. I was having coffee with a friend of mine who explained she had had that embarrassing experience of taking home someone else’s coat from a dinner-dance she had attended. She didn’t notice it for a few days but eventually the coats were exchanged. This got me thinking and I started to put together a scenario involving the owner, Keith Woodley, of a struggling coach business. I asked myself the question what would I do if I found a key to a left-luggage locker in the pocket. It may contain money which could save the business. The beauty is no-one would know. Of course the events didn’t go to plan and Keith finds himself in a life-threatening situation.

I did a great deal of research on people trafficking and the seedy world in which the girls are forced to work.
