A Word from the Author

I wonder if I was the only author to have a book launched on March 24th 2020, the day of lockdown for Covid-19. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not complaining. Although, I’m not sure where the Publishers launched it to as all the book shops were closed, or who they launched it at, as everyone went into lock-down, but at least it got out there.

And then the title, ‘The Senator’s Darkest Days’ turned out to be uncannily topical but in fairness, there wasn’t a hint of a virus when I wrote it.

Oddly enough, this historical thriller turned out to be quite up-to-date, as it is a story of hope, courage and winning through, despite the odds – and isn’t that what we all need right now?

I brought back Senator Vivius Marcianus, and the characters who were so popular in ‘The Senator’s Assignment as they know all about battling against the odds. This time the senator’s impetuous brother-in-law, Dorio, whose sense of self-worth had reached its lowest ebb after being rejected by a beautiful Christian Jewess, plays an important part in the story. But this novel is far more than a romance. It is a tale of treachery and deception set against the brutally political world of ancient Rome and Jerusalem. When Senator Vivius Marcianus is wounded and thrown into prison for murder, Dorio must come to terms with his life-style, his failures and his physical disability to rescue his heavily pregnant sister and her children, and set about proving Vivius’s innocence.

As I say, a story of hope, courage and overcoming.
