The sixth adventure in the Shadows from the Past series transports four young time-travellers – Jemima and Joe Lancelot, their friend Charlie, and their talking Tonkinese cat, Max – to the mythical court of King Arthur where they must discover the facts behind the fiction. Did King Arthur actually exist? Was Camelot a real place? As they continue their quest to find the twins’ missing parents who are lost somewhere in the pages of history, the youngsters uncover the truth behind the famous legend.

Max, meanwhile, has a mystery of his own to solve. Will he finally discover why Midnight has been haunting his dreams? The reluctant feline hero is also in for a shock of a different kind when he learns that he’s named in an ancient prophecy which foretells that he must save Arthur from Saxon invaders. He doesn’t even know what Saxons are, but Max doesn’t like the fact that everyone seems so scared of them!

And what about King Arthur’s famous sword, Excalibur? Could it be true that he would never have owned it were it not for Max? Or that Arthur might have chosen an entirely different name for it without the children’s guidance?

Peopled by many of the famous characters from Arthurian legend, such as Merlin, Lancelot (with his silly French accent), Gawain, Guinevere and the evil Morgana, The Shadow of Camelot is a fun way to introduce Middle Grade readers to the story of King Arthur. Filled with mystery, magic, moments of humour, and interwoven with snippets of real history, this time-travel adventure is a journey worth taking!
