Does Father Christmas really exist? Max the talking Tonkinese cat finds out the answer in an unexpected way when he hears strange noises on the roof one night and goes outside to investigate. This story, the second solo adventure for the feline hero of the Shadows from the Past series, actually takes place in August, which may seem odd for a book with Christmas in its title. All is revealed, however, when Santa explains the reason for his unexpected visit. Eleven-year-old Jemima Lancelot has sent him a letter telling him the only thing that is on her Christmas list that year – the return of her missing parents who are lost somewhere in the pages of history. It’s a big ask, which is why Santa realises he must get to work on it in plenty of time, and he has come to enlist the help of the Lancelot twins’ special cat, Max. Prepare for a rollercoaster journey through time on Santa’s sleigh, guided by his SantaNav. Will the duo’s quest for the missing Lancelot parents be successful? Maybe not, but it delivers tantalising clues to the rest of the stories in the series, as well as a wonderful gift for the twins.
